Welcome to My Website.

This website is an amalgamation of two websites.

I feel that the name 'The Stillroom & Flower Press' was an appropriate title for this site - as it represents and combines two of the most important passions in my life - growing and using Herbs and Flowers and the making of Herbal and Floral products, crafts and art.

In 2006 we moved to our own 'Camelot' (named by previous owners) and decided to keep and use the name for our farm/home and the Avocados growing here at the time, sadly, the Avocados are no more and other crops will be grown here, however, I decided to also use the name 'Camelot' for my herbal, floral and pressed flower creations and so the name and business Camelot Herbal Enterprises was born.

I am currently in the process of moving and amalgamating these other sites, to this site - and for this - I ask for your patience and understanding, as there is alot of moving of pictures, posts and articles to do.

In the near future I will have my own newsletter and online store for this site.

The Still Room.

Way back in history every 'fine house' had a 'Still Room' and 'Still Room Maid'.

Her job was to create Flower and Toilet waters, soaps, potpourri's, sweet pillows, herbal satchets, perfumes, medicines, bug repellents, cleaning fluids etc.   for the Ladies, Gentlemen and family of the house - and no doubt for all the other maids, waiters, butlers, gardeners etc. - after all, I do not think that the Ladies, Gentlemen and families of the house would enjoy seeing, communicating with, having their food served by and house cleaned by any person lacking in personal hygiene.

The old Castle's of times gone by and their King and Queens (such as Camelot) - also had their own 'Still Rooms' and those people dedicated to the learning of herbs, flowers and plants for medicinal and personal cleanliness purposes,  who were often referred to  'witches', (by the ignorant and fearful) or  'healer's and 'wise women' (by those who were not so ignorant).

The 'learning' of these ways were often taught one on one, by example and word of mouth and a 'passing on' of information by those that had gone before them.  No doubt records were kept - as the 'household bible' - for all things related to the health, safety and wellbeing of the said family.  This too, would have been a great 'learning' tool for the young and un-initiated, the apprentice or newcomer, to the task at hand...

When you consider that many of our modern day medicines orginated from Herbs, Flowers and Plants and that in the so called 'progression of mankind', synthetic and chemical medicines, personal care products and foods replaced our 'natural beginnings' and that along with this 'progression' came a rapid increase of new skin problems, dietary problems and sicknesses through continual exposure, application and digestion of these new 'progressive, new chemical and synthetic ingredients' in our food and personal care products - and add to this the environmental damage caused by these products leaching into our soil, waterways and air - is it any wonder that many of us are now turning back to the 'old ways', insisting upon more 'natural' type products and a less chemical, synthetic, pollutive way of living?

The Flower Press.

The 'Flower Press' was often used as a way to record the identification and different aspects and uses of a plant, herb, tree or flower.

Although many a 'fine lady and her daughters' took much pleasure in pressing flowers for their beauty, those that were interested in the 'times, growing seasons, ways and hows' of growing and plant identification also used 'flower pressing' as a very good and successful tool to pass on 'recorded knowledge' to others.

Flower Pressing is an 'old Art form' and 'teaching tool' that is also making a comeback in todays society.

Not all of us can paint, draw, knit, sew, blow glass, make leadlight glass (and all the other Original and Unique forms of art out there) including writing -  'Flower Pressing' is another way of creating 'Original works of Art'.

Many, many hours go into Flower Pressing and creating cards, arts, posters, jewelry and even bookmarks.

If you are looking for something truly and equally as 'unique and original' for a special someone in your life or a uniquely created 'one of a kind' present/gift - have a look at the 'Pressed Flower Art' on this site for 'Unique and Original, Handcrafted' gifts.

For those on a budget check out my 'zazzle online store' and 'red bubble online store' for quality printed copies of my orignal designs.
